A perfect prologue to Toronto Pursuits (July 14-19) is a weekend of world class theatre at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. Pat and Gary Schoepfel will host another excursion to charming Stratford, Ontario, prior to our week of seminars at Toronto Pursuits.
Our theatre experience includes three wonderfully diverse productions. Brian Dennehy plays Pozzo in Beckett’s masterpiece, Waiting for Godot. Martha Henry, arguably Canada’s finest actress, is featured in a new Canadian play, Taking Shakespeare. And, under the direction of Martha Henry, Shakespeare’s great “problem play,” Measure for Measure, will come to life.
The warm hospitality and comfort of the historic Queen’s Inn beckons. Located in the heart of Stratford, we will be within walking distance of fine restaurants, all four Festival theaters, many local shops, and the charming riverfront parks.
Upon our arrival in Stratford, we will enjoy a classic pub lunch at The Parlour. Throughout the weekend, we will have free time to explore Stratford’s many and diverse dining opportunities. And, at the Sunday morning brunch, we will discuss all three theatre productions.
For many theater goers, Waiting for Godot is a daunting challenge. The critic’s label, “theatre of the absurd,” prompts some to dismiss this 20th Century masterpiece as mere silliness. Prior to Friday’s performance, Gary will address the critics with his talk, The Absurdity of “Theatre of the Absurd.”
The excursion package includes round trip transportation via private coach from the Victoria College campus, two-nights stay at the Queen’s Inn, A+ tickets to three productions, a Festival Theatre backstage tour, a welcome reception and talk, pub lunch, full Sunday brunch, discussions, and the pleasures of Stratford.
