I am writing this final blog from the Alumni Hall surrounded by live spoken poetry thanks to Faith and her team. Words caroming around me as I think of our final Terrible Beauty session, a more than lively round the table exploration of Heaney’s memoriam to his mother, Clearances. What silent compllcity between mother and son, communing as they peel potatoes, then Easter at church elbow to elbow, candles, chrism, oil and the chanting of the Psalms, longing together for God, As the hind longs for the streams. An unusual privileged relationship.
[Randall is now rapping about his mother, his inspiration, two poets united in mother love. Will Randall be a future Yeats or Heaney?] Our Terrible Beauty group united by Heaney, Rosemary and fellow feeling, warmer than friendship, dines together, reluctant to let go.
[Lance’s inspiration is his girl friend, his own Beatrice, there is sex in the air. How wonderful to be young and full of juice.] Ann’s pad is running low on juice. I must leave you, see you at the reception or at another CP affair. My thanks to Ann and team and to my fellow diggers for this wonderful overflowing week. Ce n’est qu’un au revoir, I hope.
